Ewan Pidgeon: Unusual Accomplishments

Our Creative Director, Ewan Pidgeon, has accomplished many wonderful things in his career to date. Here are a few of the more unusual things he’s done over the years.

He once worked on the World Wildlife Fund account at Saatchi’s London with David Partridge and Dave Fowle. [Think about it.]

His ads have twice appeared in several of Saatchi & Saatchi’s “Best of the Best” series of books which are compilations of award winning work from around the world.

In 2007, he created an environmental campaign for Toyota Industrial Equipment that their President, Dr. Shankar Basu, was so proud of that he took down all his doctorate and degree certificates from his office wall and replaced them with framed copies of those ads.

In 1991, after Paul Arden wrote that “getting fired can be a positive career move” in his best-selling book, “It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be”, Paul fired Ewan Pidgeon.

While Creative Director of RiechesBaird, Ewan led the agency to achieve their first-ever top honors at National B-to-B shows such as CEBA and the BMA awards. Later, he was invited to judge the BMA awards in both New York and Milwaukee.

He’s had work featured in Lurzers Archive Magazine (worldwide creative showcase) a dozen or so times.

His T-shirt design for The Harp Inn in Costa Mesa completely sold out in just 10 days.

Paris Hilton's Birthday Party

He’s art directed photo shoots with Jerry Hall, Rachel Hunter and Paris Hilton.

He had a bus ad recalled by Singapore Mass Rapid Transit because it was distracting drivers too much. Mission accomplished.

His Jim Beam commercial for New Zealand was subsequently used in 35 other international markets, including Asia, Russia and the Eastern Block.

McDonald's character Ronald McDonald poses at Ronald McDonald house in Los Angeles
He once made Ronald McDonald swear profusely on the set of a TV commercial.

Over the years, he’s been told he looks like Michael Douglas, John Lennon, Gary Sinise and a homeless person.

Of course, one of Ewan’s greatest accomplishments is commanding the creative troops at Ingram Micro and inspiring us to greater accomplishments of our own.

Award-Winning Cover

On Nov. 18, 2015 at the Yale Club in New York City, min will salute the winners in their annual Editorial & Design Awards.

Agency Ingram Micro has been named as a finalist for outstanding magazine cover design in the B2B category for the Spring 2015 edition of the Ingram Micro Advisor Magazine.

The theme for that issue was “Shorten The Sales Cycle”, and our creative team was challenged to design a cover that would communicate that idea in an innovative, thought-provoking way.

The above design was chosen for its simplicity and playfulness, borrowing an element from the classic “Mad Magazine” back cover gags where an image was transformed by folding the page to reveal a hidden message.

We took a slightly different approach by having the folded panels close the gap on the winding path to create an elegant shortcut.

Looking over the other finalists in this year’s award show, it looks like our little magazine is in very good company.

Finalists include:

  • Entertainment Weekly
  • Harper’s Bazaar
  • Fortune
  • Marie Claire
  • Reader’s Digest
  • People Magazine
  • The Atlantic

The Editorial & Design Awards showcases excellence in content and design among consumer, business-to-business and specialized information media brands.

Award-Winning AIM

Congratulations to Agency Ingram Micro’s Creative Services team on their recent wins in the 2015 Global ACE Awards! Sponsored by the Business Marketing Association (BMA) of New York City, the world’s largest association of B2B-centric marketers, the Global ACE Awards recognize the year’s best B2B creative, from integrated campaigns to mobile, social and experiential marketing. The AIM team’s outstanding work earned the following distinctions:

  • FIRST PLACE – Mac Fusion “Out of Home” Campaign
Located in a relaxed beachside shopping district, this Apple reseller business needed to attract customers who preferred browsing in their flip-flops rather than navigating the large mall parking lots. Our campaign focused on the small-town feel of their business and the laid-back attitude of their community, to capture a vibe that was uniquely their own.
  • THIRD PLACE – Cisco “Fly Higher” Launch Video
To launch Cisco’s new “Fly Higher” reseller partner program, we created a video that communicated the value of partnering with people who share a common dream to do more, experience more, and reach beyond the status quo. Starting with a simple paper airplane being thrown by a child, our story unfolds (literally) like a bedtime storybook, taking us on a journey of exploration and discovery, and reminding us that our limitations are only in our mind.

And AIM’s winning ways don’t end there. The creative team also brought home eight bronze awards at the 2015 OC ADDYs, presented in March by the American Advertising Federation’s Orange County chapter. Awarded for exceptional achievement in cinematography, digital advertising, collateral materials, integrated campaigns, B2B web sites and direct marketing, these honors showcase our passion for developing fresh, exciting creative that drives our clients’ success.
